CHIN CUP/CHIN CAP
What is a chin cup?
It is an extra oral orthopedic device that covers the chin and is connected to a head gear. which is useful in the treatment of Class III malocclusions that occurs due to a protrusive mandible but a relatively normal maxilla.
Chin cup therapy attempts to retard or redirect the growth of the mandible in order to obtain a better antero-posterior relation between the two jaws.
A chin cup is attached to elastic bands that usually fit over the crown of the head and put a moderate force on the lower jaw to help restrict its growth. Usually, the appliance is worn 12 or more hours per day for several months to a few years.
Used to control the increase in anterior facial height during the time of mixed and early permanent dentition. Used in conjunction with fixed appliances, functional appliances, posterior bite blocks, and removable appliances.
