ELECTROSURGERY
In electrosurgery, electric current is applied to the soft tissues by electrodes which can be used for incision, hemostasis and coagulation of tissues.
WHERE ALL IT CAN BE USED?
• Crown lengthening- the procedure where gums margin is cut to increase the tooth crown portion high
• Gingivectomy – surgical removal of gum tissues and Gingivoplasty – surgical reshaping of gum tissue
• Frenectomy – to treat tongue tie, lip tie
• Biopsy – procedure to remove piece of tissue to send to laboratory to check for pathology
• Incision and drainage of abscess
• Operculectomy – minor surgical procedure where the gum tissue covering the wisdom tooth is cut and removed
• Hemostasis – for arresting bleeding
ADVANTAGES:
• Less bleeding
• Faster healing
• Post operative comfort is better
• Reduced Chair time
DISADVANTAGES:
• Cost expensive
• Tissue burning smell is not comfortable for some patients
